Material Study 01 — Structure

Structure in a leather object is often invisible.
What sits beneath the surface can completely change the way a piece falls, holds its shape, and moves with use.

In this study, I’ve been testing two reinforcement materials — Vildona and VXP — to understand how small differences in thickness and stiffness affect the final form.

Vildona gives a firmer, more defined structure, while VXP allows the leather to retain more of its natural softness and movement.

I’m increasingly drawn to using as little reinforcement as possible — not to remove structure entirely, but to find the point where the leather can still behave like leather.

The aim is not to control the material, but to give it just enough support to find its form.
